Review:

I upgraded to this writer from a HP 8250i that burned at a speed of 4x. What a difference to go from a 4x to a 40x. The PlexWriter burns fast and has never missed a beat with over 50 CDs I’ve burned so far. I paid USD 160 for the PlexWriter and it was well worth it. The high speed and reliability of the burns makes backing up data fast and easy, just the way I like it.

The 40/12/40A PlexWriter writes to CD-R media up to 40X speed. It writes to CD-DA discs at a maximum of 24X for highest quality. It writes to high-speed CD-RW media up to 12X speed. It reads all CD-ROM and CD-R media at a maximum speed of 40x with an average access time of less than 120 milliseconds.

The PlexWriter has “PowerRec-II” circuitry that automatically detects the type of media being recorded and adjusts the writer to provide optimum power and length of the burn for quality playback. It has Burn-Proof technology that eliminates buffer underrun errors. This drive comes with a one year full warranty on parts and labor and unlimited toll free tech support.

It comes with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic and a few other tools from Plextor. It has everything needed to get up and running. Once you get the drive installed make sure you check for updates at http://www.plextor.com. I was able to find a firmware update already available not long after I installed it.

The front face of the drive has a headphone jack with volume control and an emergency eject hole.

This drive is fast and reliable. The warranty and tech support from Plextor are very good. If you get the PlexWriter 40/12/40A you will be glad that you did.
